Leadership Development Plan - Krista Fuller - ORGL 600
Introduction
I live in Spokane Valley with my husband, Matt, and our two dogs - purebred mutts named Rosko and Cooper. I am originally from Appleton, Wisconsin and consider the Midwest my home. In my free time, I enjoy biking, hiking, kayaking, and fishing. If I have to be indoors, I love to cook and read.
After graduating from University of
Wisconsin-Oshkosh with my Bachelor of Science in Psychology, I stumbled into a
great opportunity. I was hired as a Management Trainee at a large for-profit
university. In the Management Training program, we went through two years of on-the
job training and leadership development. I was able to train in several
departments within the college: Recruitment, Financial Aid, Registrar, and Career Services. I had the opportunity to serve under several different
leadership styles, some of which were wonderful and others…not as much! After
completing two years as a Management Trainee, I was promoted briefly into an
Assistant Director of Financial Aid position before being promoted again into
the Campus Registrar position.
While I was given a wonderful start
in the for-profit world, I found myself unsatisfied with the mission and the
values of the organization. My husband and I had always wanted to live in the
Pacific Northwest, so we decided to take the plunge and make the move. After
moving, I was blessed to earn a position with Gonzaga University, where I
currently serve as a Student Services Coordinator. While I am not in a management position in my
current position, I find that I use leadership skills every day. I want to hone
these leadership skills so I am able to better serve my peers and the student
population.
